Disciples Making Disciples

Logo

What's in a logo? Some logos, representing national products or organizations are  recognizable. Others are more symbolic and contemporary in nature. The LifeWay Fellowship logo falls into the latter category. Consider the following:

The major characteristics are three concentric circles and a star-burst cross.

  • The inner circle, from which the cross radiates, represents Christ. Jesus said, "Apart from Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5)
  • The next circle represents believers in whom Jesus abides - "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27) - and who are sent into the world (Mark 16:15,; Matthew 28:18-20).
  • The larger circle represents the world whom God loves (John 3:16), into which we have been sent.
  • The cross overshadows the concentric circles giving the basis and purpose of our faith. It represents both the fulfilling sacrifice of our Lord as well as the balanced design of a believer, symbolized in the "Disciples' Cross": Jesus said, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me" (Luke 9:23).
  • The lower vertical bar represents the Word of God - "If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free" (John 8:31-32). "If you keep My commandments you will abide in My love" (John 15:10).
  • The upper vertical bar represents Prayer and Worship - "If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you" (John 15:7).
  • The horizontal bars represent Fellowship - "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another…by this all men will know that you are My disciples" (John 13:34-35); and Evangelism - "By this is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples" (John 15:8)

The cross radiating circles of influence - Christ in us, we in Christ, in the world - focuses individual aspects the Word, Prayer and Worship, Fellowship and Evangelism into a commitment of Service - "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). "The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28).
